Social Media Alert...
As there is an Anthrax outbreak, please if you are in Kruger and see any dead carcasses that are seemingly just lying there, or if you see any sick animals showing signs of Anthrax please report it.
You could be saving many animals' lives.
A statement was released by SANParks on the 25th of September.
As of this past Monday, a large number of Kudu are reported dead and an unknown amount of Buffalo. Lions have died and a Leopard, but any browsing animal including Giraffe can pass it on, and it is vital Rangers can burn and bury these carcasses as fast as possible.
It’s pointless for people to post this info on social media groups, and for people in these groups that are not actually here in South Africa to keep sharing the same photos over and over again creating chaos.
They are also wasting valuable time.
They are not helping but hindering.
Remember, our Park is over 19,000 square kilometres (350 kilometres long from North to South and 60 kilometres wide).
Anthrax is not uncommon here in Kruger, some years are worse than others and of course the tragic poisonings of our vultures this year in May was an unprecedented ecological disaster, and now these vital cleaners are in short supply.
So please, if you are in Kruger as a photographer or tourist, report these sightings to your camp Duty Manager or use the Skukuza contact centre.
Please do not post it on social media asking for help, but report it first.
Sadly, troll groups are taking the same photos over and over and posting them all over! It’s shocking and irresponsible behaviour.
So please do the right thing if you see sick animals or uneaten carcasses. Some contact numbers are on the video.
Skukuza Emergency Number for visitors: 013 735 4325 or use the number on your admission info.
If you have difficulty with this, then drive to the nearest camp.
If you can’t manage any of the above, you can also email us and we will make sure the details, info, and evidence are passed over to Kruger.
